Simone Katz, 43y, with baby Beau last year. He was born three months premature. July 16, 2009 - A delighted mum is preparing to celebrate the first birthday of her ‘miracle’ son – who weighed less than a bag of sugar when he was born.

Simone Katz could hold baby Beau in the palm of her hand when he was born, more than three months prematurely and weighing just 1lb 15 oz, last year.

The 43 year-old feared her dream of having a child was going to be snatched away from her when doctors were forced to restart the youngster’s heart soon after his birth.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
