Thrilled to be a family: Susan Tollefsen and Nick Mayer with 13-month-old Freya | © Mark Large |
There is no reason why, if I stay healthy, I shouldn't live to reach my 80s or 90s and see her into adulthood, says Susan, who turns 59 in October.
I remember once going to a mother and baby club, shortly after Freya was born, and another mother said rather nastily to me:

I replied, rather sharply,
Yes, I know that, thank you very much - I can add up.

Interesting blog you have there. Just curious, why age 44 and not other number?
I picked age 44 because when I started collecting these stories, I kept reading that it was impossible for a woman to get pregnant over 44 years old. So I started collecting stories to prove it was possible.
