I am 44 & pregnant (1st time)

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, May 30, 2008 | 0 comments

Yes, I am 44 and pregnant (1st time). It has been very smooth and uneventful so far. I am at 15 weeks, and scheduled to see a high risk physician next week for genetic counselling and amnio [amniocentesis] .

We were not trying to get pregnant, so were quite surprised when my Gyn [gynecologist] told me I was not missing periods due to onset of menopause. Good Luck! Bridget

I had 3 losses since my son was born, I was 41 at the time he was born. All 3 losses were at 7 or 8 weeks. I know how devastating it can be.

However, there is lots of hope. This time I got pregnant at 44 years 2 months old, and here I am - 30 weeks pregnant, god willing will deliver in June. This site gave me a lot of hope while we were still trying. Best of luck, Kim

P.S. All my pregnancies have been totally naturally conceived. I did have some minor testing to rule out luteal phase defect and some other hormonal problems, but they were all covered under insurance.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
