She just had her 2nd child at 57

When I joined my online baby-board the realization hit me too. I was the oldest one there. Only 31 (at the time) and the old lady of the group!

When you’re in the NY/NJ metropolitan area.... You don't realize it. There was a woman right around the corner from where I used to live in New Jersey, who just had her second child at 57! FIFTY SEVEN!!!!!

My great-great grandmother had children when she was in her 40's.
My great-grandmother had my grandmother when she was over 40.
My grandmother had my mother when she was 35, and my uncle when she was 40.
My mother had me when she was 42, and my younger sister when she was 45. (We have several older siblings as well).
I had my kids after I turned 40.

I'd match my stamina, physical and mental, against yours any day, anywhere, and in fact would match the stamina of my 87-year-old mother against yours!

Did you all grow up in a vaccum? Plenty of children have been born without any assistance to parents over 40 and did just fine.

I am a single mom with a three year old, 46 years young and counting. I was a full time nanny in my twenties and I've been around babies and children my whole life.

Certainly my energy is different now than when I was in my 20's, but at 40 I am able to offer my child lots of things I couldn't offer in my thirties too. I make good money, I own my own home, I have plenty of love and energy to offer and I am in spectacular health.

Lay off people.

My grandmother was 45 when my father was born, and she had another son after him. We are all cut from different cloth.

If you feel you wouldn't be able to look after a child after 40, then don't pursue parenthood at that age. Leave the rest of us alone to raise our children in peace.

I just found out today that my sister-in-law is preggo @ age 45 (46 when she will deliver). It was really a shock to her, as she says they were using protection.

I had to laugh, as she gave me a hard time about having my son when I was 42. She is excited, hopefully for her it will stick! - Beth
