She was 49 & pregnant with her 2nd child
I had my first child at 40 and my second at 45, both at home, wonderful births. When I called a friend to brag about being pregnant with my second at such an old age, she laughed and said she was 49 and pregnant with her second child while her first was already 10.

Working with a Tufts Health Plan nurse case manager, member Carol Penney has healthy triplets. Imagine being a mother of three young daughters, and learning that you are pregnant with triplets at the age of 49. In her 35th week of pregnancy — on March 28, 2005 — Carol gave birth to the triplets by cesarean section: girls Emily and Brooke, and a boy, Troy.
“I had three healthy, beautiful babies,” she says. “It’s a miracle, and I’m very grateful.”

Devastated by the loss of their only son, Edward and his wife -- both in their late 40's -- decided to have more children.

I'm 41 years old and am just starting my 25th week of pregnancy with my third child. My good friend had her 9th child at age 49 and I have a feeling she'll have even MORE children [she wants a really big family].
My grandma had her tenth at age 49. Another woman I know had her FIFTEENTH at age 49.
I saw a woman on TV two days ago that had a baby at age 62 [IVF assisted] and everything went great. Even though I'm 41, I'll take all the children the good Lord will send to me - I believe that if He wants you to have them, you'll have them.

I read something about the fact that, numerically, there are fewer pregnancies to women aged 40+ now (on average) then there were even thirty years ago. Is this because 40 year old + women today have suddenly LOST their fertility?
Hmm... makes NO SENSE when you consider that in most everything else we are biologically younger than our parents and grandparents were at the same age (my doc says we are almost ten years younger!)
NO , it's because with the advent of cheap, reliable birth control, women have been able to plan their families better and many have *chosen* not to have children in their 40's. Our fertile capacity has not changed but our decisions to TTC have.
I asked about your OB's age, because any doc aged 40 and younger probably doesn't have any conception of how "normal" a 40+ pregnant woman really is!!!!!!!
