My aunt had twins at 49

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, May 09, 2007 | 0 comments

My aunt had twins (lost one) at 49!! Her other children were all in college. So I could say, yes it is very possible. They do say as you approach menopause that you many times ovulate more than one egg....

I found out that I was pregnant 4 days ago and am still in shock. I went off the pill to get a check for menopause... I guess I failed the menopause test. I am scared to death I have 3 children 17, 14, and 11..... I am trying to get over the shock. I wondered how common it is to become pregnant at 46 and what to expect from a pregnancy at this time in my life.

My aunt got pregnant with her third at the age of 49 without the use of donor eggs. Is late conception at all related to genetics?

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
