I am going to be 45 & have a 3m old baby boy

I am going to be 45 in November, I have a three month old baby boy who is perfectly healthy. Odds are that everything will be fine.

As long as you are getting a regular period, you probably are ovulating and can, indeed, conceive. You certainly can carry a pregnancy to term and deliver a healthy baby. Of course, your risks of chromosomal abnormalities are greater at your age than when you were 18 years old, but there are tests that can be done to see what is going on. You are younger than my oldest obstetrical patient (who was 55 having her 23rd child). The decision is purely emotional, economical, and psychosocial.

A 52 year old gravida 12 para 8 abortions 3, last child born 3 years back was admitted on her first antenatal visit at 37 weeks of pregnancy with complaints of dyspnea and headache for one week. Her history revealed that present pregnancy was un-eventful until now with no prior antenatal visits. All previous deliveries were at home.

Outcome was an alive and healthy male baby, weight : 2.5kg with Apgar score of 8/10 and 10/10, handed over to paediatrician for evaluation of any abnormality. First post natal day ligation was done after couple counselling and consent. The mother and the baby were discharged on second post-natal day in satisfactory health.

I got together with an old friend of mine today and while on the subject of having babies later in life, she told me that her mom had her 3rd child at 41 and her 4th child at 44. Nobody thought a thing of it..... see? It's not such a weird thing to get pregnant over 40!

For all those wonderful women in their late 30's early 40's having babies congrats!!! I had my oldest who is 11 at 39, my second who is 4 at 46 and the baby who is 18 months at 49. I am 50 now, well 51 in a month, and I love it!! The older you get, the more patient you are to handle children, I love being an older mom. BTW all my children and very healthy and I never had a complication during any of my pregnancies.
