I am 45 & 23 weeks pregnant with my 7th child

I am blessed with 6 beautiful children from my first marriage. They range in age from 21-13 years. I am also a nurse and a midwife. I always refused the AFP [Alphfetoprotein or triple screen] test offered during those pregnancies because of the very high rate of false positives. I am now 45 and 23 weeks pregnant with my 7th child. My partner is 40, and this will be his first child. Again I refused the AFP and an amnio. I did have a level 2 ultrasound which found no markers to indicate Down's Syndrome.

The baby is a boy and very active! I know this child is a gift from God and will be a huge blessing to all of us. Have I been treated differently because of my age? Yes. Many ultrasounds and tests for this and that possible complication but everything has come out fine.

Here is a story... My grandmother had 8 children, the last when she was 45 (1936). The older were ages 24 to 11 years old and my grandfather had been killed in a car accident about a month after conception.

I didn't hear about gramma have any major problems with the pregnancy. The baby (my aunt) was healthy, she is now a retired teacher. However, life wasn't easy growing up for my aunt with 4 pseudo-fathers and 3 pseudo-mothers.

I am 45 and newly pregnant... what a shocking surprise. I never, ever imagined I could get pregnant again at this age. I already have a 20 month old son and a 7 year old son.

I'm 45 and expecting my first in December. I’m 13 weeks pregnant. It took some doing, but I definitely had to turn a deaf ear to the "fertility specialists" who stood to make thousands of $$ by convincing me I would need treatments. Just keep using those ovulating sticks! They work great, but you have to go through a lot of them.

By the way, my mother got pregnant with me when she was 45 and turned 46 six days after I was born. I'm just fine.
