According to the National Centre for Health Statistics in the US, women over the age of 45 are ten times more likely to become pregnant with multiples as women in their twenties.

While there are fewer women who get pregnant in their late 40's, it certainly does happen and I know a couple of women who were 49 and they got pregnant. In fact, this past January I got pregnant but miscarried just before my 50th birthday and that was natural conception. My previous pregnancy at 46 happened after two years of TTC & fertility drugs.

I remember when I was a teenager, my aunt showed me a picture of the woman in the Guinness Book of Records who was the "world's oldest mother" at that time... The woman was 56 when she gave birth to her daughter... My aunt said dryly, "Well I'm sure women have had babies at an older age than that.."
Which really wasn't surprising comment coming from her, she was 63 and still having monthly periods....
Out of curiosity I looked in the current Guinness book and the woman who had the record was 57 years and 120 days when she gave birth to her child, a natural conception. Of course now there are women in the same book who have had babies way over 60, but they used donor eggs.
