Peri-natologist had 51y old patient who conceived naturally
NOW, for the encouraging news! I asked the peri-natologist about his oldest patient. He said he had a 51-year old patient who had conceived naturally and delivered a healthy baby! It can happen!

I've been working at a hospital in Detroit and one of the therapists I work with told me this situation. Apparently a 48yr. old woman went to her Dr. complaining of not feeling good, etc. The Dr. did a pregnancy test and sure enough, this woman was pregnant. She hadn't been trying and this came as a real surprise. It sounds like this was a first child for both her and her husband. I thought this was uplifting so I wanted to share it with everyone.

I know there has been some discussion about age and birth defects. This specialist had a chart, and for women my age (46), there is a 1 in 20 chance of Down's Syndrome and a 1 in 10 chance of some type of chromosonal abnormalities. I was very blessed....my results came back, and I'm carrying a healthy baby girl, with no chromosomal abnormalities.

I'm almost 47 (two weeks!), and married late in life (well, there was that "starter" marriage two 15 years prior, but no kids, thank god). My husband and I have two living children -- one son born when I was 41 1/2, and one daughter adopted at 6 months of age from Russia when I was almost 44. I am also, somewhat unbelievably to me, 16 weeks pregnant now.

I'm 47, but I thought I was entering menopause and assumed the missed period was confirmation. Last month I bought two books on menopause. You'd think I would know better - this is #12 for me. Ages 18 months to 29 years. DH is 53. We are excited (children are a blessing!) and a little nervous. I though having one at 45 was huge. Now here I am again. I believe my due date is July 15.
