Corinne Sweet wrote: When I researched and wrote my book Birth Begins at Forty: Challenging the Myths of Late Motherhood, I was astounded and warmed by the women I met who were merrily having planned babies in their late 40s or even 50s.

One woman had been butchered by the NHS at 33 years old, after a late miscarriage and had given up all hope, only to have a natural birth at 50 years old.

More stories:

I am 45 years old, I have four male children ranging from ages four thru 21 years old.

I am currently eight weeks pregnant.

I am very excited about being pregnant again, but at the same time, I am a bit nervous too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are, amazingly, as many over-50s as under-16s having abortions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My sister is 45 years old, and carrying her first child (also conceived naturally).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hate to keep mentioning my cousin's wife, but she had three pregnancies after 40.
Sure, the middle one ended in a miscarriage, but she had a third.
I think she was 44 years old at delivery, too.
By the way, I think she went 1-2 years in there between pregnancies.
She tried Clomid, it didn't help, got off it and got pregnant naturally.
TODAY'S BOOK SUGGESTION:
Birth Begins at Forty: Challenging the Myths of Late Motherhood
by Elizabeth Gregory
-- More and more women are giving birth in their forties, and for some it will be their first baby.
What was unusual is now becoming quite common, yet little has been written on this dramatic shift.
This book tells all and is the result of honest and revealing interviews.
The book covers a range of topics, including: the trend to late parenthood; how do you decide?; how easy is it?; the risks and differences with late motherhood; combatting age prejudice; getting life back on track; having another baby; fathers over 40; and the benefits and delights.
About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
    Hi Tina,
    I am 49 years old and also thinking about having my first child. Like yourself, this is my first marriage (married at 40). I think we need to get together to have lunch and talk! I have so many questions and concerns (is it fair to the child? am I up to the physical demands? what about retirement? education? etc.) I'm sorry I'm not more help Tina. At least you know you're not the only one thinking about this!
    Anonymous,
    I am 49 and turning 50 this summer and my serious partner and I are talking about having a baby now. It will be my first. I am open to IVF/donor eggs because the studies show that the chances of conceiving and live birth is around 60%+ if the women is healthy. If we pursue this route then I want the best possible chances of having a healthy baby, if God willing.
    Let's keep sharing our stories, research and experiences, Thanks E
    I am 49 years old and have a 5 year old beautiful daughter. I got pregnant when I was 39 and had a miscarriage. The doctors recommended we get a donor, but my husband and I were against it. I had a procedure to shrink my fibroids and shortly afterwards, I got pregnant. I wanted to have a second child but it hasn't happened yet. I still believe that God will bless us with a second child. Don't give up and trust in God because nothing is impossible with his help!
    As for being too old to raise a child at 50, my Mother raised several of her grand children and grand parents are doing this around the world. If you want a child, you can raise it with God’s help.
