Pregnant for 1st time at 48y, 2nd boy at 51y

Yesterday one of my friends (a builder) told me that his best friend (now in his late 30s) was born when his mother was 48 and his father 57. When conceived, his parents were married for 20 years and were told that they would never have children. At 48 years old his mother got pregnant for the very first time (they were not trying) and she had a second boy at age 51.

Just wanted to let all you know it can happen and wish you all the best of luck. I was 46 when I conceived naturally after 1 1/2 years of trying. I am now the mother of a healthy 23 month old son who is the joy of my life, I would do it all over again in a heart beat. It takes a lot more out of you at this age but it is worth it and I tell everyone it keeps me young. As a side note I also have a 29, almost 30 year old son who loves his little brother! I'm 44 but will be 45 when this little joy comes along. My son is 20 and so this is like 'new' to me. I knew the last week of January that something was amiss. From Tuesday through Friday I did a countdown but by Saturday I was at the store getting a pregnancy test. I took it Sunday morning and the faint second pink line appeared. By Monday, I had to take another... I don't know why because I knew in my heart that I was pregnant. I had been dreaming crazy dreams and the tenderness in my breast were different, and just knowing.

Yes, I conceived on my own, also thinking in this last 5 years that it would be nearly impossible (from what I've heard) to try to get pregnant. (I just didn't think it would happen at 46).

I just found out the middle of January that I was pregnant. I went to the doctor for a backache. I thought I was going into early menopause. What a shock. I am 43 and will be 44 when this baby is born. I have 19 & 16 year old daughters by my first marriage and an 8 year old son by my second. We have actually been starting to plan for early retirement around 55.
